Organic vegetation is mulched to form the base organic material. The resulting product provides the raw Carbon source for our composts.
Organics are repositioned to form windrows up to 100 meters in length. An appropriate nitrogen source is added to provide the desired Carbon: Nitrogen ratio for optimal composting.
Liquids are added to the compost rows to ensure moisture levels are maintained at 40-50%, encouraging optimal breakdown during the composting process.
Temperatures of the windrows are closely monitored and recorded and dictate the frequency of turning.
Windrows are turned, on average, 40 times during the composting and product maturity cycle. To ensure optimal mixing and aeration of the product, CARBON PLUS COMPOST has a purpose built Komptech X60 Windrow Turner.
Compost windrows are screened to 16mm prior to sale.
