Carbon Plus Compost offers a fully composted mulch product that improves soil health on large-scale agricultural projects and farms in Brisbane and across Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Ideal for broadacre farms and specialised agricultural uses, Mulch n Grow ensures healthy crop growth and improved yield, supporting sustainable farming practices in the region.
The science: how it works
Carbon Plus Compost’s Mulch n Grow product is a horticultural mulch product that has undergone a thermal pasteurisation process to ensure weed seeds and other pathogens in the organic matter have been destroyed. Mulch n Grow is a valuable source of nutrients, aiding the nutrient retention of existing soil. Mulch n Grow will contain up to 1.0 mg/kg of nitrogen.
The product comprises the 16mm-30mm fraction screened and separated from the finer material in the compost row. The mulch is then further processed to produce our fully composted organic mulch. Carbon Plus Compost mulches are spreader compatible, for ease of handling and on-farm application.
Once applied, the mulch provides excellent moisture infiltration and retention within the soil, reducing plant stress and seeing a significant decrease in water usage. Mulch n Grow provides an efficient distribution of nutrients through the soil and can last in place for up to three years after a single application.

Nitrogen drawdown is the loss of nitrogen to plants in the presence of high amounts of raw carbon, resulting in slower growth and, in extreme cases, deficiencies.
Drawdown occurs when large amounts of high-carbon materials such as sawdust and wood chips are added to soil and when the carbon-nitrogen ratio of that material is higher than around 25-30:1.
Immature compost can prove detrimental to plant growth and health due to the high demand it places on the nitrogen present in the soil. Bacteria and fungi use the available nitrogen as they try to compost the not-yet-composted organic material.
All Carbon Plus compost has been through the complete composting process, delivering a mature compost while guaranteeing minimal nitrogen drawdown. This mature compost acts as an effective fertiliser, ensuring that your large-scale garden soils and plants are receiving all available nutrients.
